The German Socio-Economic Panel Study (SOEP) is a wide-ranging representative longitudinal study of private households, located at the German Institute for Economic Research, DIW Berlin. Every year, there were nearly 11,000 households, and more than 20,000 persons sampled by the fieldwork organization TNS Infratest Sozialforschung. The data provide information on all household members, consisting of Germans living in the Old and New German States, Foreigners, and recent Immigrants to Germany. The Panel was started in 1984. Some of the many topics include household composition, occupational biographies, employment, earnings, health and satisfaction indicators.

The Research Data Centre (FDZ-RV) was set-up in 2004 as an integral part of the German Federal Pension Insurance (Deutsche Rentenversicherung). Since then, the Research Data Centre produced several cross-sectional and longitudinal datasets, also called Scientific Use Files (SUF), available to researchers interested in issues of retirement, disability and rehabilitation. The datasets are released on an annual basis. The Scientific Use Files are subsamples drawn from the pool of individuals who are insured in the Federal Pension Insurance. Key partners include JISC, the University of Manchester, University of Southampton, University of Leeds, University of Edinburgh and University College London (UCL). The lead partner is the UK Data Archive (https://service.re3data.org/repository/r3d100010215) based at the University of Essex, a Trusted Digital Repository (TDR) certified against the CoreTrustSeal (https://www.coretrustseal.org/) and certified against ISO27001 for Information Security (https://www.iso.org/standard/27001).
