ROAD is a spatio-temporal database designed to support a systemic understanding of human activities and expansions between 3 million and 20 thousand years ago (3 Ma – 20 ka) across Africa and Eurasia. It contains cultural, anthropological, environmental, and geographical information about archaeological sites and assemblages.
Open access is provided through several tools: the basic web map 'Simple Search', the simplified data query tool 'AskROAD', and the 'Summary Data Sheets', which compile all information on a locality in a user-friendly PDF format. After registration, full access to the database is available via a SQL query interface and the geoinformation system 'Map Module'.
