SND is a service organisation for Swedish research within the humanities, social sciences and health sciences. SND helps enable Swedish and international researchers gain access to existing data within and outside of Sweden. SND provides support and guidance to researchers throughout the whole research process. SND is the Swedish node in an international network of data archives. This network is an important part of the research infrastructure.
SND is a regular ICSU-WDS member.
SND is covered by Thomson Reuters Data Citation Index. SND is the Swedish member of DataCite. SND uses Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) Metadata Standards. SND is a member of the Council of European Social Science Data Archives (CESSDA ERIC) re3data100010202. The Swedish National Data Service was established 1st January 2008 by the Swedish Research Council. The organisation is managed by the University of Gothenburg and is financied by the Swedish Research Council and the University of Gothenburg. SND replaced its predecessor the Swedish Social Science Data Service (SSD) and has an extended commission which includes the humanities, social sciences and social medicine/epidemology.
A steering committee, who has at its disposal a scientific advisory committee, leads the Swedish National Data Service. A director who is appointed in consultation with the Swedish Research Council and employed at the University of Gothenburg leads the operative organisation.
