During the past ten years, CINES historical missions have evolved to encompass the field of long term preservation. The long-term preservation of digital data produced daily is an issue that moves more and more at the heart of current concerns. Also, the last six years have seen the emergence of projects in the public or private sector, in national, European and global level, aimed to develop infrastructure dedicated to the preservation of electronic information. Among these projects, the CINES aims to give the French scientific and technical community a real service for long-term archiving of digital data, which is now operational.
