!!The National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) and its sister data centers merged into the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI)!! NGDC provides stewardship, products, and services for geophysical data from our Sun to Earth and Earth's sea floor and solid earth environment, including Earth observations from space.
NOAA National Geophysical Data Center is covered by Thomson Reuters Data Citation Index. NOAA's former three data centers have merged into the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). The demand for high-value environmental data and information has dramatically increased in recent years. To improve our ability to meet that demand, NOAA’s former three data centers—the National Climatic Data Center, the National Geophysical Data Center, and the National Oceanographic Data Center, which includes the National Coastal Data Development Center—have merged into the National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). NGDC is one of three National Environmental Data Centers operated by NOAA's Satellite and Information Service (NESDIS) http://www.nesdis.noaa.gov/; Effective October 2011, the World Data Service for Geophysics, collocated at NGDC, replaces former World Data Center for Geophysics and Marine Geology, and for Solar-Terrestrial Physics. NGDC is part of ICSU World Data System
